July 4, 2002

July 4, 2002 (Toms River, NJ) – The USL’s Super Y-League has selected Jersey Shore Boca forward Jara Habib as the league’s U15 Boys ” National Player of the Week.”

The announcement came on Wednesday July 3rd from the USL Super Y-League office in Tampa, FL.

Habib, who will be a sophomore at Marlboro HS, scored two goals for the Boca U15 side in their first SYL win of the season over the South Jersey Barons. The Boca U15s hosted the Barons in a mid-week contest at Ocean County College on June 26.

Early in the first half, Andrew Finger volleyed the ball low from the top of the eighteen past the diving Barons’ keeper but was then ruled offside.

Sean Babcock found Jara Habib later in the first half, who poked the ball between the keeper’s legs for the first tally of the match.

In the second half Stephen Thompson lofted the football to a streaking Jara Habib. Habib was tackled in the box and was awarded a pk, where he shot towards the inner left siding of the goal and scored his second of the match.

Mike McBride of Wall Township (St. Rose High School) posted the shutout in net.
