Boca plays in Cup final

The Jersey Shore Boca men’s open team hopes to capture the New Jersey Amateur Cup tonight as it hosts the German American Kickers in the championship game at 6 p.m. at the Eastern Soccer Complex, Berkeley.
The champion will advance to the United States Adult Soccer Association Regional Tournament this spring for a chance for a berth in the USASA National Cup this summer.
Boca is 4-4-1 overall, including a 5-1 win over the Parsippany Soccer Club in the semifinal round. Boca is fifth among 10 teams in the South Group of the Garden State Soccer League Semi-Pro Elite Division.
Thomas Bannionis, Berkeley, leads Boca in scoring with eight goals. He was named the team’s Most Valuable Player as a forward.
Jamie Nelson, a former Toms River High School North and The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey player, is second with five goals. The team’s player-coaches are Ryan Applegate, formerly of Central Regional, and ex-Toms River East player Christian Treney.
Also making contributions are former Central and Monmouth University player John Carozza, ex-Monsignor Donovan player Mike McCullion, ex-East player Brian Hutterman, former Lacey player Jim Dellapietro, former North player Chris Auriano, ex-St. Raymond’s player Moses Mingle and former East player Eddie Decker.
New additions who have made their presence felt are Justin Fuccello, Brick; Frank Guacdascione, Manchester; and Oren Solon, Berkeley. Other newcomers are ex-Toms River South player Don Gray, former Donovan player Ken Masuhr and former Monmouth players Art Shatterwhite and Kevin Hartwyk.
