Boca Super Y-League Teams Split in Virginia
July 16, 2001
All three Jersey Shore Boca Super Y-League teams traveled to Virginia this weekend and squared off against their Mid-Atlantic Division opponents the Richmond Kickers and Northern Virginia Royals.
Saturday’s games featured the U14s, U16s and U18s from Boca going against their counterparts from Richmond. All games were played at Dorey Park in Richmond, VA. Both the U16s and U18s lost in regulation to the Kickers. In the best match of the day, the Boca U14s ended regulation in a 0-0 draw. Richmond and Boca fought hard during the overtime period until the Kickers, who are also the 2000-2001 Virginia State Cup champions, came away with a “golden goal” victory approximately 5 minutes into OT.
On Sunday, all three Boca teams headed north to Chantilly, VA and faced the U14s, U16s and U18s from the Northern Virginia Royals. Sundays’ results however were completely reversed. All three Boca squads were victorious including the Boca U14s 3-2 win in their second “golden goal” game in as many days. The Boca U16s shutout the Royals 1-0 on a solid defensive effort and some stellar goalkeeping by Nick Lyons. The Boca U18s improved their Super Y-League record to 5-5-0. They were also victorious 2-1 with Chris Doran and Steve Reiter netting goals for Boca.
