March 18, 2002

The Jersey Shore Boca U17 team had a very good outing this past weekend and finished with a 2-1-1 overall record at the Central Jersey Riptide / MAPS Spring College Showcase held at Ft. Dix Saturday and Sunday in front of the hundred or so collegiate coaches who attended this event.

The Boca U17s started the day on Saturday by defeating powerful Eastern FC (CT), the CT 2001 State Cup runner up, by a score of 1-0 in front of a packed field of spectators and coaches. In the second match of the day, Boca was victorious 2-1 over the host U17s from the Central Jersey Riptide.

On Sunday, the Boca U17s squared-off against a strong Freestate SC from Maryland. After leading 2-0 at the half, Boca surrendered 2 second half-goals and the match ended in a 2-2 draw. The U17s dropped a hard fought final game of the day on Sunday to Manhattan FC.

The Boca U17s will now prepare for their next college recruiting, the 2002 Super Clubs Regional Championship and Showcase, being held over Easter weekend at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach, VA.
