Preparation Begins for the 2005 Summer Season

MANCHESTER TWP, NJ (March 26, 2005) – The Jersey Shore Boca U23 men’s team took on their U20 inter-club counterparts in a full 90 minute friendly match Saturday afternoon at the Manchester Soccer Complex in preparation for the 2005 Summer Season with the younger Boca side coming out on top 3-1.

Since January, both teams have been identifying players and trying to solidify their rosters as both teams will participate in the Mid-Atlantic Summer Showcase League (MSSL) this summer season..

“It was great to be outside for the first time this year and to see these potential players in their natural environment. The score really means nothing as we went for a full ninety minutes with referees and got a real good look at both ages” mentioned Walt Konopka, the Jersey Shore Boca U23/U20 Program Director.

“Of course everyone has to work on stamina and conditioning on their own which will be a key this summer. However with that said, all in all I’m extremely happy with the turnout and the overall level of play for this time of year. We really will not know each team’s full potential until all of our college players return home in May” Konopka finished.

The 2005 MSSL Summer season will kick-off the first week-end in June for both teams.

In addition, several friendly matches are planned for both sides during April and May to prepare for the season.

The Mid-Atlantic Summer Showcase League is a second year regional soccer league fostering high-level competition during the summer months at both the youth and adult ages in which Jersey Shore Boca was an inaugural member last year.

The adult level of MSSL is specifically designed for collegiate players under the age of twenty-three and is fully sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), the national governing body for adult amateur soccer.

In addition to Boca, the eleven other MSSL inaugural adult member clubs included PDA (NJ), Cherry Hill United (NJ), World Class SC (NJ), Connecticut Strikers (CT), FC Westchester (NY), Manhattan Kickers (NY), ISA Heat (NY), Lehigh Valley United (PA), NJ Rangers (NJ), The Philadelphia Soccer Club (PA) and Voorhees SC (NJ).

Because of the league’s regional affiliation with the USASA, MSSL is awarded wild-card entries by the USASA into their annual Under-23 and Under-20 Regional Championships.

Jersey Shore Boca has been a fixture in the soccer community since 1978 and is one of the most respected soccer clubs on the East Coast.

The Club is celebrating their 27-year anniversary in 2005.
