TOMS RIVER – Several standouts from the Jersey Shore Boca U23 women’s team this past summer received honors from their respective NCAA college soccer conferences during the past several weeks, with one setting a new school and individual career achievement along the way and another helping her squad to a new all time, program win record.

College of New Jersey senior defender Courtney Krol of Howell earned New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week of October 21 for second time this season after contributing both offensively and defensively in a pair of Lions’ victories. Krol wrapped up the week by notching a goal and an assist for three points while leading a defensive unit that held NJCU to just one shot on goal in a 10 to 0 win over the Gothic Knights. The two time reigning NJAC Defensive Player of the Year is a key cog in a TCNJ defense that has recorded 12 shutouts in 15 matches played on the season.

UPENN sophomore Jessica Fuccello of Brick was named the Ivy League Player of the Week in women’s soccer for the week of October 21. It marked the second time the Boca standout has been honored this season. Fuccello’s honor comes on the heels of a 2 to 1 win over Yale, in which she scored the first goal and set up what proved to be the match-winner. Fuccello has scored in fourstraight matches and in four Ivy matches, she has three goals and an assist for seven points. She currently leads the Ivy League in goals and points per match.

Fellow Brick resident Emily Wagner, a senior goalkeeper at Lock Haven University, was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Player of the Week on October 8 for her efforts in leading the Lady Eagles to a 2 and 0 week. Wagner made 15 saves over the two game span in 1 to 0 shutouts of both Clarion University and Shippensburg University. In the 1-0 double overtime win over Shippensburg on the road, the former Green Dragon turned away eight shots on her way to her fourth shutout on the season.

Senior Captain Meghan Kielt of Brick helped the Georgian Court University women’s soccer team set a new school record in wins in a season by defeating the Dominican College Chargers 1 to 0 in the two overtimes on October 21 in Orangeburg, New York. In the 108th minute, the former Brick Township High School standout broke free down the left flank and served a ball across the box to a wide open Amy Van Blarcom who headed home the game winner.

Krol, Fuccello, Wagner and Kielt were all members of the inaugural Jersey Shore Boca U23 women’s team this past summer that advanced to the Mid Atlantic Summer Showcase League (MSSL) Champion Cup finals.
