[AMERICAN ABROAD] Goalie Chris Konopka was in the nets for Irish First Division (second level) club Sporting Fingal FC Sunday in its 4-2 win over Premier Division Bray Wanderers that sent it to the final of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) Cup Nov. 22.
Fingal will meet Sligo Rovers in the final at Tallaght Stadium in South Dublin. Sligo defeated Waterford United, 1-0, in the other semifinal.
Konopka signed with Sporting Fingal on July 28 and made his first team league debut against Monaghan United on Oct. 2. He spent last year with Bohemians, the 2008 League of Ireland Premier Division and FAI Cup champions. (Konopka didn’t play in the 2008 FAI Cup final against Derry City.)
Konopka played college soccer at Providence and spent one season in MLS with the Kansas City Wizards.
