Former Boca striker in camp with Harrisburg of USL

HARRISBURG, PA (March 17, 2008) – When the Harrisburg City Islanders of the United Soccer Leagues second division begin training camp this week for the 2008 season, former Jersey Shore Boca standout Jason Mancuso will be right in the middle of it all hoping to impress the Islanders coaching staff enough to gain a spot on their roster for the 2008 season.

Mancuso ended his college career at York College of Pennsylvania this past year after transferring from Central Connecticut State University.

Prior to Central Connecticut, Mancuso was a two-time All-Region and All-Conference selection while at Ocean County College

The former Toms River North Marnier helped lead York in to a spectacular 2007 campaign posting a sparkling 21-3-1 record as the 21 victories tied a Spartan program record and his play on the field caught the eye of the Harrisburg coaches during the year.

The Spartans made their second consecutive appearance in the Sectional round of the NCAA tournament in 2007.

Individually, Mancuso started all 24 games he played in this year and tallied 14 goals and 7 assists for 35 points placing him second on the team in overall scoring.

For his efforts, Mancuso garnered All-Capital Athletic Conference Second-Team honors as well as being named an All-South Region selection by both the NSCAA and D3kicks.com.

Mancuso was part of the Boca U23 team this past summer that advanced to the finals of Mid-Atlantic Summer Soccer League (MSSL) Cup Championship and was also a part of numerous Boca youth club teams during his school years and the Boca Men’s Open team during his two years while at OCC.

Harrisburg recorded an overall record of 17-5-5 last season and captured the USL-2 Championship along the way.

The Islanders also advanced to the US Open Cup quarterfinals last year before loosing 2-1 to the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer on August 8.

The USL-2 Club will play their first of six pre-season games on Friday March 21 against another USL-2 side Crystal Palace of Baltimore.

The team begins their 2008 regular season on April 26 as they host the Cleveland City Stars in Harrisburg.

Harrisburg is coached by Bill Becher, the 2007 USL-2 Coach of the Year.
