Boca alum continues to raise money for kids with cancer

TOMS RIVER, NJ (April 14, 2009) – Jersey Shore Boca alum Mike Konopka along with his band Hometown Roll will again take the stage on Saturday April 25 to help raise money for Ocean of Love, a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to helping Ocean County children with cancer.

Konopka and Hometown Roll will team up with Bum Rogers Crab House in South Seaside Park for a second time in six months to hold this day-long benefit.

The event starts at 3pm in the afternoon and will feature activities for kids and families including face painting, clowns, specials from Mrs. Walkers Ice Cream Palace, acoustic music featuring the sounds of Ned Ryerson and other special activities.

The evening session begins at 6:30pm when The Magnums will take the stage followed by Hometown Roll at 9:30pm.

The day’s events will also feature a free buffet, Chinese auction and appearances by other special guests.

Tickets are just $5 per person and can be purchased at the door with all proceeds going to Ocean of Love.

On November 29 last year, Konopka and Hometown Roll in cooperation with Bum Rogers Crab House, raised close to $1,000 for Ocean of Love and hope to significantly exceed that amount this time around.

“We did very well back in November in our first benefit with a very short window to prepare. This time around, we did some better planning, have more activities for families and have more people involved. Bum Rogers is also helping quite a bit this time. We are looking to top our total from before. It is for a tremendous cause, to help benefit kids with cancer right in our own backyard in Ocean County. It should be a great day for all who can attend” mentioned Konopka.

Bum Rogers Tavern and Crab House, located at 2207 South Central Avenue in South Seaside Park, has been in business for nearly 40 years and is a veritable Jersey Shore institution with a menu that pays extra special attention to seafood.

Ocean of Love, based in Toms River, started helping 12 families in October of 1988 and to date has helped several hundred children and families throughout Ocean County.

They also provide counseling, support group meetings, food assistance, household bill assistance, aid for travel expenses to and from Hospitals and other various forms of support.

The fundraising event is open to the general public and everyone is welcome.

The Jersey Shore Boca Soccer Club has been a fixture in the soccer community since 1978 and is one of the most respected soccer clubs on the East Coast.

The Club is celebrating their 31-year anniversary in 2009.
