Boca men capture NJSA Premiere Cup as Lockwood tallies goal and assist
NEWARK, NJ (June 7, 2010) – The Jersey Shore Boca men’s open team added another piece of hardware to their trophy case on Friday evening as they captured the 2010 New Jersey Soccer Association Premiere Cup at Lubetkin Field on the campus of the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark with a quality 2-1 win over United Nations FC from Bergen County.
Guy Lockwood (Manahawkin), who played professionally for several years with the North Jersey Imperials of the USISL after a standout career at Monmouth University, played a part in both Boca goals.
The Southern Regional HS Hall of Fame member scored the first Boca tally early in the second half of the match off an assist from former Toms River North and Richard Stockton College standout Jamie Nelson (Toms River).
Lockwood then provided the assist on the game winning goal tallied by Mike McCullion (Toms River) as he led the former Monsignor Donovan and TCNJ star into the box with a perfect thru ball in which McCullion buried past the United Nations keeper.
Jim Keady (Belmar), a former professional in the USL with the North Jersey Imperials and former assistant coach at St. John’s University, was solid between the pipes for Boca throughout the match keeping United Nations at bay with some top-class saves including a 1v1 stop and allowing only one goal during the full ninety minutes.
The Boca men advanced to the Premiere Cup finals by trashing the Neptune Soccer Club 7-1 in the quarter-final round in April and then topping FC Hunterdon 2-1 in the semi-final round last month.
Ryan Applegate, the 2008 NJSA Coach of the Year who starred at Central Regional and Rowan University and Christian Treney of Toms River East and Methodist College, direct the Boca men’s team as player-coaches.
Recent accomplishments of the Boca men’s open team include:
