Seven Boca Players Finalize College Choices

Seven Jersey Shore Boca standouts, including five college transfers, one prep-school graduate and one high-school graduate have finalized their future college choices and will continue their soccer and academic careers this fall as announced today by the Jersey Shore Boca Soccer Club. They will join nine Boca players who previously announced their future college decisions in April.
Seven Boca Players Finalize College Choices

Will join nine fellow Club members from the class of 2005 and continue their soccer and academic careers in September

TOMS RIVER, NJ (July 13, 2005) – Seven Jersey Shore Boca standouts, including five college transfers, one prep-school graduate and one high-school graduate have finalized their future college choices and will continue their soccer and academic careers this fall as announced today by the Jersey Shore Boca Soccer Club.

They will join nine other Jersey Shore Boca players from the high school class of 2005 who previously announced their future college decisions in April.

Four of the five Boca players who are transferring will depart from Ocean County College including Sean Cahill (Whiting) who will attend West Virginia University, Justin Campbell (Point Pleasant Boro) who will attend Manhattan College, Andrew Hawtin (Toms River) who will attend Syracuse University and Jason Mancuso (Toms River) who will attend Central Connecticut State University.

Also, Connor Bryant (Tinton Falls) will transfer from Herkimer County Community College in New York to Bryant College (MA), Daniel Brackley (Hamilton) who attended one year at the Peddie School after graduating from Hamilton High School will attend Carnegie Mellon University (PA) and John Corcoran (Stratford), a 2005 Sterling High School graduate will head to St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

“On behalf of all of our Coaches and Directors within our Club, I would like to congratulate these seven players who will continue to play the game they love at the next level. All of them have made great decisions on their choice of colleges and our Club is very proud of them and wishes them the best of success” said Walt Konopka, a member of the Club’s Board of Directors.

“I have known and coached some of these guys for over 10 years. Some will have their work cut out for them in September from both a soccer and classroom standpoint, but I’m confident all of them will be up for the challenge and will give their best efforts possible” added Konopka.

Brackley, Cahill, Campbell Hawtin and Mancuso are members of the Jersey Shore Boca U-20 men’s team, coached by Konopka that participates in the Mid-Atlantic Summer Showcase League (MSSL) this summer.

Cahill, who is long-time Boca veteran, scored 2 goals and tallied one assist in 18 games as a freshman at Kean University. The 2003 Manchester graduate sat out last season at OCC and will have three years of eligibility remaining at West Virginia.

Campbell comes from a family with good soccer roots as his older brother Ryan, who also is a member of the Boca men’s program this summer, is a senior forward at Monmouth University. Justin will have three years of athletic eligibility left at Manhattan.

After their college season ended last year at OCC, Hawtin and Mancuso helped the Boca men’s open team advance to the NJSA Amateur Cup Final as well as the finals in the Garden State Soccer League Cup before joining Boca’s U-20 team this summer. They both will have two years of college eligibility remaining.

Bryant is a new member of the Boca summer program, playing on the Boca U-23 team coached by Steve Ruch which also participates in MSSL and Corcoran is a current member Boca’s U19 Super Y-League team coached by Wolf Finger.

The nine other Boca members of the class of 2005 who previously announced their college decisions include Sean Babcock of Barrington (Haddon Heights HS) who will attend West Chester University (PA); James Daly of Bayville (Central Regional HS) who will attend Methodist College (NC); Chip Fidler of Williamstown (Williamstown HS) who will attend Norwich University (VT); Andrew Finger of South Harrison (Kingsway Regional HS) who will attend Neumann College (PA); Ryan Morris of Brick (Brick Memorial HS) who will attend East Stroudsburg University (PA); Chris Nelan of Barrington (Haddon Heights HS) who will attend the College of New Jersey (NJ); Mark Petruniak of Hightstown (Hightstown HS) who will attend American University (DC); Mark Schmeigel of Toms River (Toms River North HS) who will attend Bucknell University (PA) and Jake Weinberg of Highland Park (Highland Park HS) who will attend Rutgers University (NJ).

During the 2004 NCAA intercollegiate soccer season, Jersey Shore Boca had forty-three Club standouts that previously played for Boca on either their Men’s, Super Y-League, Premiere Development League, Club or Youth teams who were members of their respective colleges soccer teams.

Boca has been a fixture in the soccer community since 1978 and is one of the most respected soccer clubs on the East Coast.

The Club is celebrating their 27th year of existence in 2005.
