Super Y-League Granted Official ODP Status
August 11, 2002

TAMPA, FL – With the approval of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), the Super Y-League has been granted ODP status effective immediately for the SYL Finals and Regional Select Teams.

With this status, the US National Team Staff will evaluate selected players at the SYL Finals and future Regional Select Teams for the U.S. National Team Programs.

Thus, players competing at the SYL Finals from August 22-25, 2002 in Raleigh, NC, will be scouted by members of the National Team Coaching Staff, which will provide
players with an opportunity to be looked at for higher levels of the game with the U.S. National Teams.

The ODP designation of the SYL Finals allows players to be excused from scholastic soccer programs that overlap with the August 22-25, 2002 date without discipline from the school or coaching staff, since this is an ODP program that has been granted by the National Governing Body, the USSF.

After the completion of the season the USL office will be working on a comprehensive program for the 2003 season that enables players to be scouted in league play for the Regional Select Teams.

This will provide a comprehensive outlet for aspiring players to be scouted by the
National Team Coaching staff upon selection of the Regional Teams.

USL believes that the ODP system through the league will provide players with more opportunities to reach the levels of the National Team as well as aid the National Team Coaching Staff with alternative ways to
identify players.
