Boca Alum To Perform At Oceans Of Love Benefit

OCEAN COUNTY – It is not uncommon to see numerous Jersey Shore Boca alumni giving back to their local community after their playing careers have ended, continuing to serve the soccer realm in some way, shape or form as volunteer youth coaches, clinic instructors, administrators, soccer mentors and everything else in between.

And former Boca standout Mike Konopka is no different, although his playing days, now in a different form, are not just finished yet.

On November 29, at Bum Rogers Tavern and Crab House in Seaside Park, Konopka, along with his local musical group, Hometown Roll, will lead a fundraising effort to help benefit Oceans of Love, a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to helping Ocean County children with cancer.

The fundraising event will begin in the afternoon with various activities for the entire family with special guest appearances throughout the day.

The musical entertainment by Hometown Roll will start at 9 p.m. and last until closing.

Special raff les, dance contests and other miscellaneous awards will also highlight the evening with 100 percent of all proceeds earned for event being donated to Oceans of Love.

Bum Rogers Tavern and Crab House is located at 2207 South Central Avenue in Seaside Park.

Oceans of Love, based in Toms River, started helping 12 families in October of 1988, and to date, has helped several hundred children and families throughout Ocean County, including one of Boca’s own, Adriana Pericciouli, daughter of long-time Boca player and Coach Kirk Pericciouli and granddaughter of Jersey Shore Boca Founder Walt Pericciouli, who was diagnosed with Wilms tumor, a cancer of the kidneys that occurs in children.

They also provide counseling, support group meetings, food assistance, household bill assistance, aid for travel expenses to and from hospitals and other various forms of support.

The fundraising event is open to the general public, and everyone is welcome.

The Jersey Shore Boca Soccer Club has been a fixture in the soccer community since 1978 and is one of the most respected soccer clubs on the east coast.

The club is celebrating their 30-year anniversary this year.
