Boca Players Compete in NCAA DIII Championship

Seven Jersey Shore Boca players, including Daniel Brackley of the Boca U20s, will have the opportunity to represent their schools in the 2005 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship which begins today and ends on November 26 with a National Champion being crowned in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Seven Jersey Shore Boca players prepare for the 2005 NCAA Division III Tournament

TOMS RIVER, NJ (November 9, 2005) – Seven Jersey Shore Boca players will have the opportunity to represent their schools in the 2005 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship which begins today and ends on November 26 with a National Champion being crowned in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Leading the seven is Daniel Brackley (Hamilton Twp), Chris McGreevy (Rochester Hills, MI), and Versh Tivzenda (Marietta, GA) who all were members of the Boca U20 team this past summer that advanced to the semi-finals of the USASA U20 Regional Championship as well as the semi-finals of the MSSL Cup Championship.

Brackley, a freshman at Carnegie Mellon University will lead the Tartans (13-2-1) against Fredonia State University (NY) in the first round. The talented midfielder has started every game and is tied for first on the team in assists with 5.

McGreevy and Tivzenda, both sophomore midfielders at Stevens Institute of Technology (14-3-2), will face Eastern University in a first round game. McGreevy has amassed 14 goals and 7 assists for the year while Tivzenda contributed a goal and assist each.

Also, Chris Nelan (Barrington), a 3 year veteran of Boca Super Y-League teams including playing with the Boca U19 team this past summer, will try to help advance The College of New Jersey (16-2-1) against the winner of Roger Williams University and Mount Ida College in a second-round game on Saturday. Nelan, a freshman forward, has seen action in 10 games this year for TCNJ tallying 1 goal.

Also helping their schools advance to the 2005 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship are former Boca club standouts and Super Y-League veterans Matt Acciani (Cherry Hill), a senior defender at Union College; George Gkionis (Jackson), a senior midfielder at Stevens Institute of Technology and Nick Gkionis (Jackson), a junior defender also at Stevens.

Jersey Shore Boca has a record fifty-five club standouts who previously played for Boca on either their Men’s, Super Y-League, PDL, Club or Youth teams that participated in NCAA intercollegiate soccer this fall for their respective institutions.

This is the highest number of Jersey Shore Boca players to ever participate in NCAA intercollegiate soccer during the same season in the club’s 27 year history.

Jersey Shore Boca has been a fixture in the soccer community since 1978 and is one of the most respected soccer clubs on the East Coast.

The Club is celebrating their 27-year anniversary in 2005.
