Four Boca U23 standouts bowed out of the 2008 NCAA Tournament this past week as the current intercollegiate college soccer season draws near to a close. Michael Krol, Erin Cunliffe, Ally Abbate and Daniel Brackley finished their season as their respective schools did not advance. All have been members of the Boca U23 program the past several years.

College season ends for U23 standouts

TOMS RIVER, NJ (November 25, 2008) – Four Jersey Shore Boca U23 standouts bowed out of the 2008 NCAA Tournament this past week as the current intercollegiate college soccer season draws near to a close.

Michael Krol (Howell), Erin Cunliffe (Lakewood), Ally Abbate (Oceanport) and Daniel Brackley (Hamilton) finished their current college season as their respective schools were knocked-out of the NCAA Tournament.

Krol, a sophomore defender at Montclair State University, helped the Red Hawks to a 21-0 undefeated season before falling to Messiah College 1-0 in the NCAA Sectional Round on November 22 in Newport News, VA.

The Red Hawks finished the season with a school-record for victories and won their third consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship as they went unbeaten in the league during the regular-season (9-0) while adding two more wins in the tournament.

Montclair also reached a No. 3 ranking by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), its highest ranking in school history and over the last three years has posted a 60-5-1 mark with two of those losses coming to Messiah.

The appearance in the 2008 NCAA Tournament was the Red Hawks’ third straight, something it had not done since 1990-1992 and it was MSU’s third consecutive trip to the “Sweet 16” of the tournament.

The former Howell Rebel started in all 22 games and finished the season with 2 assists and was named to the NJAC 2008 Men’s Soccer All-Conference Second Team

Cunliffe, a senior midfielder at The College of New Jersey, ended her outstanding college career when the Lions were ousted 2-1 by top ranked Williams College on Saturday November 22 in the NCAA quarter-finals at Williamstown, MA.

TCNJ finished the season with a mark of 14-7-1.

The former Piner standout played in all 22 games for TCNJ this season and finished second in the team in scoring with 10 goals and 2 assists for 22 points.

Cunliffe received NJAC 2008 Women’s Soccer Honorable Mention honors and was also named to CoSIDA’s ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Second Team.

Brackley, a senior midfielder at Carnegie Mellon University finished his season with a 3-0 loss to No. 9 Ohio Wesleyan University in a second round NCAA Tournament game on November 15 in Delaware, Ohio.

The Tartans finish the year with a 15-3-1 record while recording their second NCAA win in program history along the way.

The Steinert High School alum started in all 19 games for the Tartans this year and finished with 1 goal and 1 assist.

Brackley started in 63 games and played in 70 during his four year career with the Tartans.

Abbate, a junior midfielder at Georgian Court University saw her magical 2008 season come to an end as the Lions fell to #21 The College of St. Rose, 2-0 on November 14 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship at Sodexho Field on the campus of Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire.

Georgian Court ended their campaign at 12-7-5, which included a 15-game unbeaten streak.

Abbate started in all 24 games for the Lions this season tallying 1 goal and 1 assist.

Krol, Cunliffe, Brackley and Abbate have been members of the Boca U23 program the past several years.

Boca has been a fixture in the soccer community since 1978 and is one of the most respected soccer clubs on the East Coast.

The Club is celebrating their 30-year anniversary in 2008.
