Boca U16 Team Heads to Europe

The Jersey Shore Boca U16 team has finalized their plans to travel to Scotland and England and will depart on Wednesday for a twelve day international summer soccer tour that includes participation in the tenth annual Liverpool Knowsley International Youth Soccer Tournament in Liverpool, England.

Twelve day summer tour includes participation in the Liverpool Knowsley International Youth Soccer Tournament

TOMS RIVER, NJ (July 16, 2005) – The Jersey Shore Boca U16 team has finalized their plans to travel to Scotland and England for a twelve day international summer soccer tour that includes participation in the tenth annual Liverpool Knowsley International Youth Soccer Tournament in Liverpool, England.

Under the direction of Boca head coach Walt Pericciuoli, the team will depart from New York on Wednesday July 20th to Glasgow Scotland and then travel to historic Edinburgh University and stay for 4 nights.

During their time in Edinburgh, the Boca U16s will participate in daily morning training sessions conducted by Scottish FA coaches and compete in two international friendly games against local Scottish clubs Leith Athletic and Polbeth United.

The team will also have some free time to experience some of the fabled Scottish culture, food and landmarks such as Celtic Park, Saint Giles Cathedral and Edinburgh Castle, home of the early Scottish Kings from the time of Macbeth as well as take the a Scottish first division professional game between Celtic FC and Leeds United.

On Monday July 25th the Boca U16 team will leave Edinburgh and head south to Liverpool, England where they will participate in the Liverpool Knowsley International Youth Soccer Tournament during the remainder of their stay.

The Liverpool Knowsley International Youth Soccer Tournament, in its tenth year of competition, is becoming one of the top international youth soccer tournaments in Europe.

The tournament is approved by FIFA and the English Football Association and is played under English FA rules. The tournament is also a full member of the British Isles Soccer Tournament Association.

The Boca U16s will be one of three teams from the United States in the tournament field of twenty-four. The two other US representatives are the Dallas Inter Soccer Club from Texas and the Central Massachusetts Soccer Club from New England.

The remainder of the Tournament field includes powerhouse international club teams from Blyth Town FC (England), Dundela FC (Northern Ireland), Stellamaris FC (Republic of Ireland), Keflavik (Iceland), Dijon FCO (France), Mgarr FN (Malta), Mei Long (China) and the Rangers JFC (Scotland) among others.

Preliminary round tournament games will commence on Tuesday continuing through Thursday with semi-finals played on Saturday July 30th and Finals on Sunday July 31st.

The Boca U16 team will return to the United States on Monday August 1st.

To help defray some of the cost of the trip, the Boca U16 team performed numerous fundraising activities during the past year. The team also received support from some private donors as well as Shogun of Toms River, Applebee’s, Johnny Carina’s Italian Restaurant and Jenkinsons who all helped sponsor the trip.

In addition to Pericciuoli, the team’s official travel party also includes Boca assistant coach Joe Baiata and player chaperone Mike Baiata, a long-time member of the Jersey Shore Boca youth program who will begin his junior year with the William Patterson University men’s soccer team in September.

Parents, friends and family will also be traveling with the team.

The Jersey Shore Boca U16 team has attended numerous US Club and US Youth Soccer events during this past year, is a member of MAPS and plays in MOSA Premiere for regular league play.

Jersey Shore Boca has been a fixture in the soccer community since 1978 and is one of the most respected soccer clubs on the East Coast.

The Club is celebrating their 27th year of existence in 2005.
