Team gears-up for run in USASA tourney and MSSL Cup

LAKEWOOD, NJ (July 13, 2006) – The Jersey Shore Boca U23 women’s soccer team announced that they have signed University of Pennsylvania standout forward Jessica Fuccello for the remainder of the Mid-Atlantic Summer Showcase (MSSL) season and that the Brick (NJ) native has joined the team and will be available this weekend as Boca competes in the USASA U23 Regional Championships in Oakford, PA.

Fuccello, who will begin her sophomore year for Penn this fall, played in all 16 games as a freshman while starting 11. She led Penn in scoring in her rookie campaign netting 9 goals while adding 5 assists for 23 overall points.

The 2006 Brick Memorial HS graduate received a number of accolades during her rookie year including Second-team All-Ivy League honors as well as being named to the SoccerBuzz.com Regional All-Freshman Team.

The former Mustang was also a two-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week selection and a two-time SoccerBuzz.com Elite Team of the Week selection as a freshman.

Fuccello’s 2006 goal total was best by a Penn freshman since 2001 and is tied for seventh on the program’s single-season list.

“I have known Jessica and the Fuccello family for some time now. We are delighted that she is joining us for the rest of the summer. Jessica is a very special player and a pretty strong attacker who has played at the highest of levels. She will certainly help our women’s team for the remainder of the season” mentioned Walt Konopka, a member of the Jersey Shore Boca Board of Directors who also oversees the Boca U23 summer programs.

Jessica’s older brother Justin is a long-time Jersey Shore Boca veteran and has competed for the Boca U20, U23 and men’s open teams as well as for Boca’s club and Super-Y League teams earlier in his career.

The Boca U23 women’s team is in the middle of their first season in Club history and participates in the Mid-Atlantic Summer Showcase League (MSSL).

Boca holds an overall MSSL record of 3-3-1 through games of Sunday July 8th.

The Boca women will also try to take their place among the elite teams of the northeast this weekend when they travel to the United German Hungarians Club in Oakford, PA and participate in the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) U23 Regional Championships.

Boca will be one of twelve U23 women’s teams participating in this year’s Regional Championships with the winner heading to Seattle, WA from August 3rd through 5th and a spot in the U23 USASA National Championships.

The Jersey Shore Boca Soccer Club is participating in MSSL for the fourth consecutive year this summer as one of the league’s inaugural founding members.

MSSL is a regional summer soccer league, which is specifically designed for collegiate players under the age of twenty-three and is fully sanctioned by the USASA.

The Jersey Shore Boca summer soccer program is officially sponsored by Surf Taco, a popular Mexican themed restaurant chain with six locations throughout the jersey shore.

Boca has been a fixture in the soccer community since 1978 and is one of the most respected soccer clubs on the East Coast.

The Club is celebrating their 29-year anniversary in 2007.
