After bouncing around different clubs in Belgium, midfielder Niko Gkionis is hoping to latch on with Scottish Premier League club St. Mirren.

Gkionis spent the first part of last season with Belgian Exqi League club Royal Liege before moving to third division Excelsior Veldwezelt for the second half of the season.

He is now scheduled to join up with the Saints towards the end of the week where he will hope to impress new head coach Danny Lennon who replaced Gus McPherson last month.

“Niko will be joining us at the end of the week for a trial period during our pre-season,” confirmed St. Mirren Press Officer Norrie Jamieson to YA.

Should the New Jersey native manage to earn a contract with the Paisley club, he could find himself going up against US national team and Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu as many as four times during the upcoming campaign.

St. Mirren begin their preseason on Wednesday.
