LOOKING TO CUP
Boca to battle for league title

LAKEWOOD, NJ – After failing to advance beyond the first round games at last week’s United States Adult Soccer Association Regional Championships, the Jersey Shore Boca U23 men’s and women’s teams have now set their sights on capturing this summer’s league championship as both squads have been selected to participate in the 2007 Mid-Atlantic Summer Showcase League Championship Cups being held on Sunday July 22 on the grounds of Ft. Dix.

The 2007 MSSL Cups will feature the league’s top six men’s and women’s teams this summer based on standings through last week. Teams will divided into two brackets of three teams each with the group winners facing each other in the Cup finals.

The Boca men, who hold a MSSL record of 4-3-4 and are tied in 5th place in the men’s standings with 16 points, will first square-off against the NJ Rangers at 11:00 am followed by an afternoon contest against last year’s MSSL Cup Champion West Chester United (PA) at 4:00pm while the Boca women, who have a league record of 3-3-1 and hold 5th place in the women’s standings with 10 points, take on the NJ Wildcats at 10:00am and then face the Eastchester Patriots (NY) in their afternoon match.

The women’s MSSL Cup finals are set to kick-off at 6:00pm and the men’s championship game will begin at 6:45pm.

Both Boca teams have previously faced some of their MSSL Cup opponents in regular league play earlier this summer with the Boca men playing both West Chester and the Rangers to a 2-2 draw last month and the Boca women loosing a close 2-1 match to the NJ Wildcats on June 10 at Lakewood.

The Boca men advanced to the 2006 MSSL Cup Semi-final game loosing a heartbreaker to West Chester 2-1 at the John Patrick Sports Complex.

At the USASA Regional Championships last weekend, the Boca men started with a 0-0 tie against powerhouse FC Delco (PA) and then dropped a tough 3-0 decision to the same NJ Rangers they will face in Sunday’s MSSL Cup while the Boca women surrendered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to the Bethesda Eclipse (MD) and then fell to FC Bucks (PA) 3-1.

University of Pennsylvania standout and local Brick native Jessica Fuccello tallied Boca’s only goal for the weekend for the Boca women against Bucks while her brother, Justin recorded the shut-out in the net for the Boca men against Delco.
