TOMS RIVER, NJ (April 16, 2004) – Seven Jersey Shore Boca standouts have finalized their decisions to continue their soccer and academic careers in college this fall as announced today by Al Schwartz, the President of the Jersey Shore Boca Soccer Club.

The seven high school seniors include Danny Haydu of Toms River (Toms River East HS) who will attend Monmouth University (NJ); Joe Cutler of Manahawkin (Southern Regional HS) who will attend Rider University (NJ); Darren Rutherford of Cape May (Lower Cape May Regional HS) who will also attend Rider University (NJ); Pat Gee of Spring Lake Heights (St. Rose HS) who will attend North Carolina Wesleyan College (NC); Robert Galante of Sayreville (Sayreville War Memorial HS) who will attend Bloomfield College (NJ); David Novak of East Windsor (Hightstown HS) who will attend East Stroudsburg University (PA) and David Nicholson of Millstone (Allentown HS) who will also attend East Stroudsburg University (PA)

“On behalf of all of our Coaches and Directors within our Club, I would like to congratulate these seven players who will continue to play the game they love at the next level. All of them have made great decisions on their choice of colleges” said Schwartz.

All seven players have previously played in the Super Y-League and all will be on the roster of Boca’s U-19 Super Y-League team for 2004.

They all are also competing for a roster spot on Boca’s U23 team this summer that will compete against some of the top soccer clubs on the East Coast.

Haydu and Cutler, who have signed National Letters of Intent for their respective colleges, are long-time members of the Jersey Shore Boca youth program played under Coach Walt Konopka on the Boca U17 Super Y-League team of 2002.

“Danny and Joe are two of the hardest working young men I have ever had the opportunity to coach. I am positive that once they get adjusted to college life and college academics, they will both not only succeed in the classroom but on the soccer pitch as well. I’m very happy for both of them as well as our entire class of this year” said Konopka.

Rutherford, Gee, Galante, Novak and Nicholson all helped Coach Bill Carroll and Boca’s 2003 U17 Super Y-League team earn a very respectable fourth place finish and record of 6-6-1 last year with the later four players also playing under Carroll on the Boca 2002 U16 SYL team.

Gee, Galante, Novak and Nicholson also traveled to Argentina last year with Coach Carroll and the Boca U17s to train alongside and play against the Club’s professional namesake, the world famous Boca Jrs.

“The class of 2004 is a very special group to me. Most of these kids played for me in one form or another, since they were 10 years old” said Coach Carroll.

“Our team found success at every level, even when playing up a year in league play. I am very proud to have had the opportunity to coach such a fine young group of players” Carroll finished.

Including these seven high school standouts, Jersey Shore Boca will now have twenty-three alumni who are current or previous members of Boca Super Y-League teams that will participate in NCAA inter-collegiate soccer for their respective schools in the fall.

Jersey Shore Boca will field a record six Super Y-League teams during 2004, the highest number ever in its SYL history.

Along with their newest U-14 girls team, Jersey Shore Boca will also field five boys teams this year; U-13s, U-14s, U-15s, U-16s and U-19s.

All of the Boca 2004 SYL teams will compete in the historically tough Mid-Atlantic Division in the Northeast Conference.

Jersey Shore Boca has been a fixture in the soccer community since 1978 and is one of the most respected soccer clubs on the East Coast.

The Club celebrated their 25-year anniversary in 2003.

Jersey Shore Boca alumni include several former National and Olympic Team members, professional players as well as numerous collegiate players, coaches and former local high school standouts.
