BOCA U23s – Mid-Atlantic Summer Showcase League (2-4-1):
The Boca U23s adjusted their roster a bit for the weekend as they were named as the MSSL league representative at the USASA U-20 Regional Championships in Manalapan, NJ. In the first match of the day, Boca lost 3-1 to Real Wyckoff with Kris Cheeseman (Barnegat) tallying Boca’s goal in the second half assisted by George Gkionis (Jackson). Boca dropped their second match 3-0 to FC Westchester and 1-0 in a tough match against the Baltimore Bays, the eventual USASA U-20 2004 Regional Champion, in their last game of the tournament. Old Dominion University bound Jon Curry-Edwards (Spring Lake Heights) and Sean Grayson (Plainfield) split time between the pipes for Boca. “We had our opportunities to put some in the net in each game but did not capitalize on them. Our efforts in the midfield were also not up to par as we could have done better in this area” said Walt Konopka, coach of the Boca U23s. “Overall, we played against some very good competition over the weekend. It was a good experience for our players but I’m not really happy with our results” Konopka finished.
BOCA U19s – Super Y-League (2-7-0):
The Boca U19s traveled South on Monday and Tuesday and squared-off against the Chesapeake Athletic Club and Northern Virginia Royals. On Monday evening Boca faced a fast and skilled Chesapeake team. Boca had some clear opportunities to score but did not finish due to poor decision making. Boca’s only goal came in the second half off of direct kick from 25 yards out, Andrew Finger (Kingsway Regional HS) put the ball around the wall and into the side net. The game ended 4-1 in Chesapeake’s favor. However, Boca turned things around and put in a fine performance on Tuesday against the Royals. Boca’s first goal came early in the game as Brent Samartino served a thru ball to Damon Wilson who with a well timed run put it in the net. Minutes after scoring his first Y-League goal, Wilson crossed the ball to Charles Fidler who was making a run from left mid to the far post and headed the ball into the back of the net. The Royals continued to play hard mounting some well organized attacks, which the Boca defense of Jim Coletti, John Corcoran, Sean Podorsky and Dave Nicholson did well to keep the ball out of the net. The Boca midfield anchored by Andrew Finger, Brent Samartino, JB Daly, Charles Fidler and Boca’s younger players Ryan Morris and Rich Sketinni played relentlessly to win balls and disrupt the Royals attack. A well placed pass from James Daly to Wilson helped him score his second goal just before the first half. The final ended 7-0 with Wilson scoring a hat-trick for Boca. Keeper Steven Bukowczyk earned the shutout for Boca. On Sunday at the Manchester Soccer Complex, Boca dropped a heartbreaker 1-0 to powerhouse DC United who scored the only goal of the game in the last minute of the first have. Boca improves to 2-7-0 overall in the SYL U19 Mid-Atlantic Division.

The first half of the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Parsippany opened scoring on a breakaway 10 minutes into 2nd half. The Boca U13s then woke up and scored three to close out the match. Man of the match for Boca was Ed Ruhnke (Bayville), with 2 goals and one assist.
