BOCA U23s – Mid-Atlantic Summer Showcase League (0-2-1):
The Boca U23s opened their home MSSL season Saturday afternoon at the Manchester Complex taking on a strong Lehigh Valley United side from West Chester, PA. After Lehigh Valley tallied a goal in the 20th minute, Jack Facemyer (Yale University) ripped a low hard shot from about 15 yards out which bounced off the Lehigh Valley GK to a waiting Joe Cutler (Southern Regional HS) who collected the ball and beat the GK near post for Boca’s first goal of the day. Lehigh scored once more before the half. Then in the 40th minute, a Boca player was fouled about 25 yards out. Travis Iapicco (Stevens Institute of Technology) sailed the direct free kick into the upper-ninety far post to even the score at the half. Boca allowed the winning goal mid-way through the second half on a turn-around volley from about 18 yards out which beat Boca GK Jon Curry Edwards (St. Rose HS) to the far post. “This was very good game to watch. Both sides played well. We need to defend a bit better and open the game up a bit more to create more opportunities. Other than that, we played very well” said Walt Konopka coach of the Boca U23s.
